Autumn Dance is constructed out of budding Boxelder tree branches that were gathered along the Santa Fe River. It was a beautiful, solitary day walking through the last bit of snow and mud as our small stream hopped its banks during the springtime surge. Bright colored birds were migrating through the area- the sight of which was exciting and humbling at the same time. I’d never noticed the Boxelder tree before and its new pink bud clusters were stunning. The branches were shades of grey and green, with spots and lines that made it look like a topographical map. The mulberry paper is “natural colored” with brown rain tree leaves embedded in it. It reminds me of the wet carpet of last years leaves on the ground, turning back into earth. The lamp structure sits atop a battery powered LED puck light, which makes it a good centerpiece for a table.
